Ever tried to paint blind or by foot?

31st October 2018 By Admin Linda

In UKS2, our curriculum topic this half term is called ‘Gallery Rebels’.
We wanted to get the children to think about art in different ways, so we watched some clips of artists who paint non-traditionally.
First, there was the painter from China who used his feet to paint beautiful landscapes as he had no arms.
Secondly, there was the highly talented artist from South Korea who lost his sign in a car accident and now paints by touch.

Children across Year 5 and 6 then had the opportunity to try and make some art whilst both blind folded and also by holding a paint brush between their toes

Check out some of their impressive artwork.
Well done to Lily, Summer, Layton and Wiktoria who were crowned the best artists of the afternoon.

Perhaps you might like to give it a go!

We are GOOGLE LEGENDS

31st October 2018 By Admin Linda

On the afternoon of Wednesday 17th October, KS2 had the opportunity to take part in an assembly run by Google. The aim of the assembly was all about how to stay safe on the internet.

It was definitely a hands-on assembly, with children having the opportunity to participate in quizzes using funny coloured hands and some even had a go at making a super strong password.

It’s safe to say, children are now even more aware of how to stay safe online.
Thanks Jez and Meg!

Destination Judo

31st October 2018 By Admin Linda

On the 11th and 12th of October, all children in KS1 and KS2 had the opportunity to try out some Judo with some professionals from Destination Judo.

The children learnt a range of holds, over-powering techniques and also got to see some expert moves from the demonstrators.

Children really enjoyed the activity, and have all received a special voucher so they can go and try it out again for free.

End of Term Movie

19th October 2018 By Admin Linda

On Friday 19th October, children from KS1 and also Class 6b were rewarded for all their hard work this term, by having the opportunity to watch the wonder ‘Hotel Transylvania’ during Golden Time.

And, as a further reward for their hard work, the children were also provided with popcorn snacks to nibble on throughout the film.

We wish everyone a wonderful half-term.

We also really can’t wait to see the fabulous costumes that this movie will inspire at our upcoming Halloween disco when we return from the break.

Golden Movie Afternoon

10th October 2018 By Admin Linda

On Wednesday 10th October, children from Key Stage 2 were transported to the magical world of Narnia. Our writing in English this week has been focused around the characters and the different locations.

Whilst snuggled up with cushions, bean bags and blankets the children snacked on popcorn and followed the adventures of Lucy, Mr Tumnus, Edmund and the White Queen.

I’m sure this will really inspire their descriptive writing.

Year 3 – STEM Challenge

Year 3 – Marshmallows and Spaghetti STEM challenge

As part of Friday enrichment on 28.09.18, Year 3 were set the challenge of building tall and beautiful towers, using only spaghetti and marshmallows.

The challenge was definitely more difficult than they first thought, but everyone managed to work brilliantly in their teams and produced some fantastic towers.

Alongside this, we also ended the session with some very sticky fingers thanks to those pesky marshmallows. I think we may have some future architects and engineers in our midst.

Mummifying Tomatoes

21st September 2018 By Admin Linda

Upper Key Stage 2 are currently studying Pharaohs, and have been looking at the process of mummification. Over the past few weeks they have been testing out the process on a to try and find out what is the best salt for preservation.

Children mummified their tomatoes with different mixtures; including table salt, Epsom salt and a combination of table salt and bicarbonate of soda.

In the majority of cases, it was found that the mixture of table salt and bicarbonate of soda was best for preservation. Some of the tomatoes lost over 20g in weight through the process.

Although, all the children would agree, that it was a rather smell experiment!
